The Telegraph’s False Assertion of a Potentional Terrorist Link

Last updated 5 May 2013

The UK newspaper The Daily Telegraph has made the false assertion that Hamza Andreas Tzortzis was linked to a charity with potential terrorist links. Please see the following statement of clarification below:

Hamza Andreas Tzortzis was a trustee of Green Crescent which was a charity supporting orphans in Bangladesh. The head of the charity, Dr Faisal Mostafa, was accused of compiling a weapons cache at one of the charity’s orphanages.  Dr. Mostafa was a victim of a politically motivated set up, he was tortured for months without being charged, and was subsequently hospitalised due to ill health. All charges have been dropped by the Bangladeshi authorities and the UK government played a central role in his release. Although Dr Mostafa has had a criminal past, he poses no threat to the UK or any other country. Dr Mostafa’s criminal record was unknown to Hamza who was sincerely interested in establishing an orphanage in one of the most poorest countries in the world. Hamza is not longer a trustee and resigned in 2009.
