Hamza Andreas Tzortzis from the Islamic Education and Research Academy (iERA) presented the results of their UK study concerning the perceptions of Islam, Muslims and how Islam is presented to non-Muslims (known in Islamic theology as dawah). The study was based on a statistically robust sample of randomly selected Non-Muslims representative of British society.
The research was carried out by 2 leading agencies, Phruit and DJS. The purpose behind this research was to understand people’s perceptions of Islam and Muslims with a view to informing production of dawah materials and future campaigns.
The research comprised 20 questions, which looked at socio-economic background, age, demographics, religious background, and asking them what they knew of Islam, how they have heard about it, if they have read dawah materials, what they thought about it and how they would like to receive any future information on Islam.
