What's New?

New Research: An updated version (2.0) of Hamza's new research paper "Embryology in the Qur'an: A Scientific-Linguistic Analysis of Chapter 23" is now available on-line here. This updated analysis includes responses to a wide range of popular and academic contentions, for example it clarifies the role of the yolk sac (also known as the umbilical vesicle) with regards to the appearance of the embryo, and whether the Qur’an is inaccurate in its description of it being leech or worm-like. A major update to this paper is a comprehensive response to the contention that the Qur’an plagiarised or borrowed ancient Greek (Hellenic) embryology. For the first time in 20 years – since this contention came about – a thorough refutation has been made available.

Lectures: Watch Hamza's new lectures from the Islamic Awareness Tour 2012:

"Science and Revelation: The Qur'an and Embryology". Hamza discusses the relationship between science and revelation, while highlighting the limited scope and philosophical limits of scientism. Hamza continues the lecture by using embryology as a case study to hilight that the Qur'an being a Divine book does not go against established realities, which are different from scientific findings. The lecture includes full references and images, as well as comprehensive responses to popular and academic contentions. A key contention that is addressed includes the fact that Galenic and Aristotelian accounts on the developing human are similar to the Qur'an. "Islam and the West, God's Existence and the Qur'an". Hamza introduces how Islam influenced the West concerning the presumption of innocence, the scientific revolution and civil governance. Hamza continues the lecture by articulating a key argument for God's existence and provides a positive case for the Divine nature of the Qur'anic discourse. "Is God Delusion?" Hamza articulates positive arguments for the existence of God, the Qur'an and responds to common atheist contentions. Watch the lecture here: Is God a Delusion?

Essay: Hamza's new essay "Did the Prophet Muhammad Plagiarise Ancient Greek Embryology?" has been updated with some more fascinating research that dismantles the plagiarism thesis. Commentators assert that the quranic view on human development is a plagiarism of ancient Hellenic embryology. They specifically claim that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ plagiarised the works of the ancient Greek philosopher and polymath Aristotle, and the 2nd century physician and philosopher Galen. To respond to this accusation, this essay will articulate the mainstream Islamic scholarly position that the Prophet ﷺ did not plagiarise or borrow ideas from Hellenic medicine.
